As the awarding body we are unable to confirm the suitability of pieces directly.
We ask teachers to use their judgment to assess whether a piece enables the learner to meet the assessment criteria to the best of their ability, answer the knowledge questions and comply with the regulations.
Our Exams encourage progression through the grades. Therefore the Learner is expected to have an increasing knowledge of the whole prose that the extract has come from.
If the prose is too short, then this may limit the Learner’s ability to give answers that suitably meet the assessment criteria and the depth required.
This is something that we ask Teachers to consider when helping a Learner choose their pieces.
