As of August 2025, we'll be widening the Additional Set Piece List - meaning you'll be able to select from more options for set pieces in our Acting and Speaking Verse & Prose qualifications! This will make these exams even more accessible for more learners, with a wider range of resources available to them.
From the launch of the new lists:
Learners will be able to use pieces from Regulated GCSE and A-Level specifications that are included in the Additional Set Piece List at the correct level.
We will also be listing alternative sources for many of our set pieces, ensuring you can access the piece either in the relevant anthology, or through other books, compilations, or web sources.
Does it mean that whatever is listed as additional set pieces will be prohibited as own choice pieces?
Additional Set Pieces are permitted for Own Choice pieces as long as they do not share text with the current Anthology Set Pieces (Acting Volume 5 and Verse and Prose Volume 20).
We are extending our current selection of set pieces, rather than restricting the use of options as Own Choice Pieces.
How will the additional set pieces affect any use of volume 4 as the set piece?
There will be no change, this will not affect the use of Volume 4 as Set Pieces. This gives teachers and Learners more choice and further options for suitable Set Pieces.
Will a supplementary book with pieces be published?
There are no plans to publish any supplementary books at this time.
Will this additional set pieces list include pieces for younger students below Level 2 and 3?
Not at present, this is something we are looking to develop at a later date.
How long should our set piece be?
Additional Set Pieces performance time is the same as the Own Choice scene of the Learner’s registered exam. If the piece is significantly under the time allowance, there may not be enough material for the examiner to adequately assess.Where a maximum timescale is stated, if a Learner exceeds this time, the Examiner will not mark anything presented after this time.
