As the awarding body we are not permitted to share potential exam topics.

The topics have been carefully selected to ensure that Learners do not need technical knowledge in order to create the speech and to give everyone a fair opportunity.

The assessment criteria, against which the Impromptu will be marked, do not require the Learner to have any technical knowledge.

The focus should be on preparing the Learner to be able to develop their broader impromptu speech development skills.

As such we would recommend that umbrella topics are used to discuss potential topics with Learners, for example:

Personal/Cultural

Topical

Abstract

At Level 3, preparation may include the Learners interpreting the categories and creating some ideas.

Learners should understand the structure of a speech and be able to use this structure to create a clear speech that is directly linked to the topic and can be confidently delivered. The Learner should always make sure that the link to the chosen title / topic is not tenuous.
