An Invalidation will be awarded where a Learner has passed all of the Assessment Criteria (AC), but does not fulfill the examination requirements or breaches any of the examinations regulations, as stated in the relevant syllabus.

All examination regulations are published at the beginning of the relevant syllabus. Any breach of these regulations can result in a result being Invalidated (See What are the Examination Regulations?).

If a Learner does not fulfill an examination requirement (e.g does not present a piece that was published between 1800 - 2000 / backing vocals are present on a backing track / presents a piece from a different grade), the Examiner will refer the issue to LAMDA. The referral will be reviewed by the relevant personnel who will determine whether there are grounds for Invalidation.

In the event that an Invalidation is awarded, a letter detailing the reason for the Invalidation will be sent with the results to the Centre Coordinator / Correspondence Contact, and "INVALID" will be present above the overall mark. It will also be shown as "Invalidated" in the Results Summary.

Please note: Examiners cannot discuss anything that does or does not take place during an examination. Should a Learner's exam require referring for possible Invalidation, they cannot make any reference about it to the Learner / Teacher / Parent / Centre Coordinator.

If you wish to contest the Invalidation of a result, you can submit an Enquiry about Results (EAR), detailing the reasons, and providing the relevant evidence, for LAMDA to consider overturning the Invalidation.
