There are two ways that a Learner can receive a fail:

1) They are not awarded enough marks to meet the minimum pass mark to achieve a Pass grade

Over the course of their whole exam, if the total marks awarded do not total the minimum mark for a Pass, then the overall result awarded will be a Fail.

The marks required to achieve a Pass, Merit and Distinction are detailed at the end of each Level in the relevant Syllabus. They can also be found at the bottom of the Learner Examination Report (LER).

2) They are unable to fulfill one or more of the stated Assessment Criteria (AC)

LAMDA requires that Learners receive a minimum of a pass for all of the stated Assessment Criteria for their exam.

If a Learner receives a fail for any of the Assessment Criteria required for their exam, regardless of the overall total mark they receive, a Fail will be awarded.

In the event of a failed AC, a dot will be placed in the F column on the LER against the relevant AC, so as to explain what the Learner was unable to fulfill.

All Fails will be detailed on the Results Summary received with all results

This information can also be found at the end of each Level in the relevant Syllabus.

"It should also be noted that Learners who complete the external assessment but who either do not meet the minimum pass criteria mark for a Pass or fail to satisfy one or more of the stated Assessment Criteria (irrespective of the total marks they accumulate) will be graded as a Fail."

Please note: Examiners cannot discuss anything that does or does not take place during an examination. Should a Learner fail their exam, Examiners cannot make any reference about it to the Learner / Teacher / Parent / Centre Coordinator.

If you wish to contest a Fail result, you can submit an Enquiry about Results (EAR), detailing the reasons, and providing the relevant evidence, for LAMDA to consider reviewing the fail.
